Cairo Tower, soaring over the Egyptian capital at 614 feet (187 metres) in height, was the tallest tower in the whole of Africa for ten years after it was built, and remains the tallest in North Africa to this day.
Cairo Tower (sometimes called: "Island Tower") is a tower located in the Egyptian capital Cairo, built between 1956 and 1961 of reinforced concrete on the design of the Egyptian lotus flower, designed by engineer Noam Shabib, located in the heart of Cairo on Zamalek island in the Nile River.
It reaches a height of 187 meters and is about 43 meters higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza. On the top of the Cairo Tower, there is a tourist restaurant on a rotating platform that allows diners to see the sights of Cairo from all sides.
The tower is one of the most prominent landmarks of Cairo and consists of 16 floors and stands on a base of Aswani granite stones that were previously used by the ancient Egyptians in the construction of their temples and tombs, and the journey inside the Tower elevator to reach its end takes 45 seconds to see when you stand on top of a complete panorama of Cairo, the pyramids, the TV building, Sphinx, Nile, Salah el-Din Castle, Al-Azhar and on the 14th floor a restaurant.
