2 Day-Trip to Luxor and Abu Simbel from Hurghada

Overview

In an unforgettable historical adventure, we will depart from Hurghada, where the tranquility and beauty of the Red Sea meet the heart of the ancient Egyptian civilization, where you will visit the treasures of pharaonic Luxor, and then continue your journey south to the legendary wonder of Abu Simbel, in a program full of splendor and enjoyment.

In those two days we will enjoy a breathtaking experience that will take you to explore two of the most impressive cities, such as Luxor and Aswan.

On our tour we will explore Luxor, where we can visit a rare collection of archaeological sites, many of which are still in good condition: Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings, in addition to the unique artifacts exhibited in the Luxor Museum. The provincial capital (Thebes) remained the capital of Egypt until the beginning of the Sixth Dynasty, when it was moved to Minaf in the north.

We will also enjoy a special visit to the city of Aswan, where we can see and explore Abu Simbel. The Great Temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia is one of the most impressive monuments, since King Ramses II of the XIX Dynasty ordered its construction by cutting it completely into the mountain, and is famous for its four huge statues that adorn its facade. It was built so that the sun's rays are perpendicular to the face of Ramses II two days a year, February 22 and October 22, through the main hall and illuminate the faces of the statues located in the depths of the temple, except the statue of the idol Ptah. To the north of the temple is another rock-cut temple, known as the Small Temple, dedicated to Hathor and Nefertari, the wife of King Ramses II, and on its façade stand their huge statues, side by side, of the same size, in a rare representation. The process of moving the two temples began in 1964 due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam so that they would not drown in Lake Nasser, and the relocation process was completed thanks to international efforts in cooperation with UNESCO, being inaugurated in 1968 in their new location and inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

Itinerary

From your hotel in Hurghada, one of our representatives will be waiting for you to take you in a private and modern car to start your journey of almost 4 hours to Luxor, during which you can take a break along the way to have a drink or go to the bathroom.

Our trip will begin with an amazing visit to the extensive Karnak Temple complex, which will highlight its vast hypostyle hall and other features built over many centuries. Then we will explore Temple of Luxor, known for its role in the annual festivals. Before returning to the hotel, you will have the opportunity to explore the nearby city.

Your second exploration destination on the west bank of Luxor is Queen Hatshepsut constructed the Bahari Monastery, a complex of pharaonic temples and tombs on the west bank of the Nile, to perform ceremonies that would aid her in the afterlife. After the Copts used this temple as a monastery in the 7th century AD, the region was given the present-day Arabic name Bahari Monastery.  With slope platforms for climbing and descending, the temple is divided into three ascending amphitheaters. Originally built on the location, the monument was the funeral temple of Mentuhotep II, who lived in the eleventh Dynasty in the twenty-first century BC.

The next stop on our itinerary is the "Valley of the Kings," also called the Valley of the Kings. This valley in Egypt was used for five hundred years, from the sixteenth to the eleventh centuries BC, to build tombs for the pharaohs and nobles of the New Kingdom during the eighteenth through twentieth dynasties of ancient Egypt. The valley is situated in the center of the historic funerary city of Thebes, on the west bank of the Nile River, across from Thebes (modern-day Luxor). The amazing Valley of the Kings consists of the western valley and the eastern valley, which contains most of the royal tombs.

Your trip will come to an end at the Statues of Memnon, two massive statues built around 1350 BC that are the only remnants of a temple devoted to the Egyptian king of the 18th Dynasty, Pharaoh Amenhotep III.  In the funerary city of Thebes, west of the Nile River from modern-day Luxor, is the temple.

When your trip is over, our guide will take you back to your Luxor hotel.

In the early morning, get ready for a new valuable adventure that takes you to explore such a valuable tourist spot as the Abu Simbel Temples.

Today we explore the Abu Simbel Temples On its walls are spread pharaonic inscriptions and hieroglyphic writings that attest to the victories of King Ramses in his military wars, most notably the battle of Kadesh against the Hittites, in which the first known peace treaty in ancient history was signed, In addition, the temple represents another aspect of the original Egyptian pharaoh's personality: his romantic side and his love for his beloved wife Nefertari, who constructed a temple of love adjacent to his magnificent temple, sanctified her femininity, referred to her as a goddess in certain inscriptions, and raised her prestige in ancient Egyptian society.

The reason for naming the temple Abu Simbel, its history goes back to the local people who refused to guide the discoverers to the location of the temple, but the discoverers communicated in such a way that one of the children showed them the location of the temple, and attributed to this child the name of this temple “Simbel” - an unwritten novel circulating - but the temple was called “Bar-Ramses” The pharaonic name meant "the house of Ramses, the beloved of Amun, glorified by his victories. "

We will transfer you to your accommodation in Hurghada at the conclusion of your excursion, after you have had a chance to explore the place and take the most unforgettable pictures with the help of our knowledgeable guides.
