Today you will enjoy an exciting archaeological excursion to one of the lesser-known and more mysterious areas of ancient Egypt, where you will discover the Pyramid of Lahoon and the Pyramid of Lisht, two pyramids from the Middle Kingdom, located south of Cairo near Fayoum and the Dahshur region.
During this unique tour we will give you the opportunity to explore and visit the Lahun Pyramid, built by King Senwosret II of the 12th Dynasty. This pyramid is characterized by its unique architecture and the location of the tomb entrance in an unusual aspect - at the base of the pyramid and not inside it as is commonly believed. Itinerary
You can begin your journey from your lodgings in Cairo or Giza. Our representative will accompany you throughout your tour! In a modern private car, we will take you to two of the special Pyramids in Cairo:
We will start with the visit of the Pyramid of Lahun, located in the area of the same name in the Governorate of Fayoum, was built by King Senwosret II, belonging to the XII Dynasty, with mud bricks on a hill 12 meters high on the outskirts of the city of Lahun, Next to the pyramid are the tomb mastaba of the princess Sat Hathorat Ayunt and the tomb of the pyramid engineer Enbi in the south and 8 mastabas, which were the tombs of members of the royal family, and in the area of the pyramid is the cemetery of Lahoon and the city of Lahoon workers. The ancient Lahoon was known as “Ra-en”, which means the mouth of the lake, and the area of Lahoon were ancient marshes and ponds that dried up over time, and one of its monuments is the obelisk known as "Abjij," which is made of pink granite and has an odd shape because of its rounded top, and not pointed like other obelisks, and on it is carved the name of King Senwosret I, and in the vicinity of the pyramid was found the papyrus known as the “Hakon” papyrus, which is the oldest medical papyrus in history.
We will next proceed with our journey to the Pyramid of Amenemhat I, which was constructed at Lisht by the founder of Egypt's XII Dynasty. Sand and clay brick rubble make up the loose fill between the small, rough chunks of local limestone that make up the pyramid's core. Limestone blocks from the pyramids of Cheops, Khafre, Unas, and Bibi II (or perhaps Bibi I) were found in the pyramid. Inside the pyramid, a sloping shaft blocked by granite burial plugs extends from the entrance to the first floor to a vertical shaft that descends directly into the burial chamber. The overall construction of the pyramid was poor, and little remains of it today.
