History of Princess Aziza Fahmy's Palace
Aziza Fahmy Palace is situated in the Galem District of Alexandria, Egypt. It was built in 1905 in the name of Aziza Hanem Fahmy, the daughter of the chief engineer of the royal palace Ali Pasha Fahmy on an area of 15 thousand 2M and was designed by the Italian architect Grantua during the construction of the Alexandria Corniche.
Attempts to demolish it
The palace is registered on the list of heritage buildings with a distinctive architectural style. The company that owns it submitted a project two years ago to turn it into a tourist facility. Still, it was rejected because the designs would distort the architectural style of the area around the palace. The committee then approved the possibility of converting it only to (a boutique hotel) to preserve its unique architectural style. There was a judicial dispute between the holding company for tourism and hotels and the heirs and ended with the acquisition of the state represented by Egoth company, one of the subsidiaries of the holding company for tourism and hotels, on an area of 8 thousands of meters including the palace so that the heirs share 7 thousand meters of land surrounding the palace
