The Temple of Nadora in Kharga Oasis

The Temple of Nadora in Kharga Oasis

The temple of Al-NAD'ura is an archaeological temple located in the Kharga Oasis in the New Valley governorate, it was once the meeting place of all the commercial caravans that come through the forty Avenue to the Paris Oasis, starting from Darfur in Sudan until Assiut, it was also used as a fortress and a place to collect taxes and supply supplies to commercial caravans, which passed next to the temple.

Naming

It is not yet known what it was called in the old days, but the people of the oases called it Al-nadhurah, which is derived from the word al-Nadr, and it is a place to see and follow the place around it, because it is located on a high hillock.

Current situation

The temple was built in Roman times to serve as a fulcrum and observation point, as well as to protect the oases in ancient times from invasions and from the attacks of robbers who were changing from time to time on the people of the oases.

Nowadays, the temple has become a hill of bricks and sand, and its walls are crumbling due to a lack of attention; the lack of tourist delegations to the place has become suffering neglect. And the perimeter of the temple turned into mounds of garbage.
