Itinerary
You have an early morning start and a private pick up at your hotel in Cairo, before making your way northwest, along the Mediterranean coasts, to the historic town of El Alamein. Once at El Alamein, you will begin your World War II journey with your visit to the El Alamein Military Museum and afterwards to the Commonwealth War Cemetery, where the stories of heroism and global conflict are revealed. After a leisurely, scenic lunch on the coast, you will continue your drive deep into the Western Desert. Enjoy the shifting landscapes along the way, from coastal views to arid plateaus, before arriving at the remote oasis of Siwa.
Arrive in Siwa Oasis by the late afternoon or early evening, just in time to watch the sunset over the salt lakes or atop the ancient Shali Fortress. Check in to a cozy eco-lodge surrounded by palm groves and mudbrick buildings that are entirely Siwan in style. Spend the evening enjoying a delicious local dinner under the stars. If time permits, wander through the still life quietness of the town center. This first day will present a stark juxtaposition between the El Alamein coastal battlefield memories and the quiet and timeless essence of Siwa, which will set the stage for a journey through the lesser-traveled hidden gems of Egypt.
Are you ready for an incredible day? Start with a solid breakfast, and then it's off on an enormous day of exploration of Siwa Oasis. To kick your day off, head to the famous Gebel al Dakrur. This site is known for its therapeutic hot sand as well as its spiritual and ceremonial significance to the Siwan people. From Gebel al Dakrur, journey to Balat, the ruins of the ancient Siwan settlement, where mudbrick structures reflect the extraordinary architectural history of the Oasis. Then travel to the ancient Temple of Umm al-Sidra, thought to be another ceremonial site associated with the ancient Amun cult. This site is famous for its rolling dunes and date palms.
After a traditional Siwan lunch at a family-run lodge, make your way to the serene waters of Abu Shuruf Spring, a quieter, lesser-known natural pool, and perfect for a refreshingly cool swim. In the afternoon, visit a local olive oil press and date workshop and see how the Oasis produces its famous organic products. Your day will finish at the picturesque Dakrur Mountain Plateau, where you will sip tea around a campfire and watch the desert sun disappear on the horizon. Then enjoy a rest day in your eco-lodge.,

Once you’ve had your organic breakfast at your eco-lodge, experience an adrenaline-filled adventure through the Western Desert, as you kick off your full-day Siwa Desert Safari. Your first stop takes you to the tranquil Abu Ali Village. You will learn all about traditional Siwan farming practices and visit a small archaeological site containing some secret ancient Berber carvings hidden among the rocks. As you continue on your journey out into the Great Sand Sea, you’ll find yourself in an area littered with prehistoric marine shells and fossilized sea beds. A real treat to be reminded that this area was once covered by an ocean millions of years ago.
Next, head for a remote saltwater lagoon hidden in the dunes, which is an ideal venue for bird watching and a serene swim in clean mineral-rich water. The next leg of this tour will be heated up and ramped up with an exhilarating off-road ride from the lagoon over towering dunes to a chosen slope for dune sliding - exhilarating fun with panoramic views of the desert landscape. Your exploration of the desert mist will come to an end with a soak in the warm sulphuric springs of Ain Hamam, where you can soak your tired body in warm, naturally heated water. As the sun sets, sip on Bedouin tea around a small fire the letting the magic and silence that permeates the desert sink into your mind, before heading to your lodge for a well-earned night's sleep.

Have your final organic meal and the calm of a morning in Siwa, nestled amid the oasis's palm trees. Then you will want to walk to a local market for a little bit of shopping. Here, you can look for Siwan silver jewelry, embroidered scarves, and local natural goods like date syrup and desert herbs. This is an excellent opportunity to bring a bit of Siwa home with you. Make a note of any final photos of the oasis landscapes, and then you will be prepared for your departure.
Your driver and guide will take you on an alternate route back to Cairo through the Western Desert to experience another scenic route through Egypt's stark terrain, such a stark and huge part of Egypt. As you drive, you will stop for a lunchtime break at a desert roadside café - stretch your legs and reflect on your adventure. After approximately an 8 to 9-hour drive, you will arrive at your hotel in Cairo with memories of the mystery, beauty, and tranquility of Siwa etched into your memory.
