To begin your visit to the Great Pyramid, we will take you to the area where our team will be fully prepared to provide you with comfort and happiness. The Great Pyramid is by far the biggest. It was 481 feet high when it was constructed. It is now slightly shorter because the top is missing. For 3,800 years after its construction, it was the tallest human-made structure on earth. It measures 750 feet by 750 feet at the base and is made of large stone blocks, primarily limestone blocks cut from the area near the pyramid.
The Pyramid of Khafre, built by the son of Khufu, follows a similar structure. The third pyramid is smaller in size but has a more ornate funerary temple... It was constructed by Pharaoh Menkaure in 2490 BC. Having lost part of its covering over time, a pyramid renovation project was launched a few months ago. Each pyramid is only part of a larger complex, including a palace, temples, and pits.
We continue our historical investigation by touring the Egyptian Museum after a cultural tour of the pyramids. The project began in 1835, when Prince Regent Muhammad Ali banned the export of the country's antiquities. The idea of building a place dedicated to the storage and care of archaeological finds and their public exhibition was then born.
In 1858, the first Egyptology Museum was established in Boulaq, Cairo. Auguste Mariette was the director, with the collaboration of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities. However, following a major flood of the Nile that inundated the establishment in 1878 and caused extensive damage, the antiquities were temporarily moved to the Royal Palace of Giza, in Al-Jizah, Cairo.
The sound and light show dates back to 1961. It starts at 8 p.m. In the summer, it's delayed by half an hour. Bring warm clothes in winter; Cairo gets cooler in the evening. The show is static; you remain seated facing the Sphinx. In this performance, lights are projected onto the monuments while André Malraux's illuminating text is complemented by a soundtrack. It is interesting and educational at the same time.
