Experience the most delightful journeys to Fayoum with our organization. Early in the morning, you will be driven from your Cairo hotel or apartment to Fayoum, where you may experience the adventure and take in a city that is very different from Cairo. As a deep dip on the Western Desert's limestone plateau, the governorate is Egypt's biggest natural oasis. All sides of it are desert, with the exception of the southeast, where it joins the Beni Suef Governorate. About 92 kilometers southwest of Cairo Governorate, it is located in the North Upper Egypt area.
You will take a 4x4 to the Valley of the Whales (Wadi Hytan) which is a protected natural area where scientists have discovered the skeleton of the first whales and fossils, which are preserved in rocks, of numerous plants and animals.
Then we move to the village of Tunis. Swiss potter Evelyn Porret visited Fayoum in the 1980s with her Egyptian friends.. No sooner had she discovered Tunis than she decided to build her own country house there. The house was built with a dome-shaped ceiling design, using environmentally friendly building materials. A masterpiece of eco-architecture, the potter's house encouraged others to build their homes in Tunis according to the same model. Perhaps Evelyn had no idea that she would alter the course of history and destiny of a little, unheard-of town named Tunis when she made the decision to relocate there more than thirty years ago.
