Enjoy a visit from Luxor to Cairo. Our representative will transfer you to Luxor Airport and from Cairo International Airport we will start our trips. The first smooth pyramid was built for Snefru, the first king of the 4th Dynasty, in the location of Dahshur, south of Saqqara. It is part of the fourth funerary complex of this king, various solutions having been successively adopted for the superstructure of the tomb: the pyramid of Seila is stepped, a choice repeated at Meidum, where however, a limestone covering filling the steps gives the monument the final appearance of a smooth pyramid.
At South Dahshur, the architects immediately designed a geometric pyramid (the rhomboidal), but undoubtedly due to accidents that occurred during construction, they had to modify the inclination, reducing it from 580 to 430, at mid-height. Learning from experience, they opted, during the new and final construction site, begun in the year 29 of the reign, one kilometer to the north, for this second slope angle and obtained a perfect figure, 220 meters on each side and 100 meters high, entirely built in horizontal courses.
Take one of our trips to discover more about the Dahshur Pyramids. In the Valley of the Kings hamlet, which is close to the archaeological monuments you will be visiting, have lunch at a neighborhood Egyptian eatery afterward.
You will be transferred to Memphis. According to tradition, Memphis was founded by the first ruler of Egypt, the legendary Menes. This king unified the country for the first time and brought it out of prehistory. The city was initially named "the white wall" after a limestone stepped surrounding wall. With the great temple of Ptah, Memphis became the capital of the Old Kingdom of Egypt, from about 2780 to about 2280: its location was privileged, on the west bank of the Nile, between the cultivated area and the desert plateau. After enjoying your time, let's catch your flight to Luxor.
