After all traffic from Alexandria International Airport was moved to Borg El Arab International Airport in December 2010, the latter became the primary airport serving Alexandria. There is a new passenger facility and an administration building at the airport. The passenger terminal is three stories tall and is shaped like a boat.
In early 1998, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) began investigating the construction of a new international airport in the Borg El Arab area west of Alexandria on part of the land of Borg El Arab Air Base, which was originally allocated to the CAA. An area of 5.5 km x 2.5 km of this land was allocated for the construction of the civil airport, and the CAA commissioned a consultant to design a temporary international airport to receive flights instead of Nozha Airport until the permanent international airport, which will be completed in 2010.
The passenger terminal building accommodates 1000 passengers per hour, and aircraft parking lots accommodate 11 aircraft of various models, the total area of the new passenger terminal will become 21789 m2, and this area will accommodate passenger traffic until 2014 to reach one million passengers annually. The airport building consists of three floors.
It contains 18 counters for receiving departure bags, an automated baggage system that includes one travel belt, 3 arrival belts, 8 counters for passport control for departing passengers, and 10 counters for passport control for arriving passengers. In addition to four gates connected by bridges to deliver passengers to the planes through them, in addition to the other gates where passengers will be transported to the planes by buses.
At Alexandria Borg El Arab Airport, you may unwind and partake in a variety of enjoyable activities while you wait for your flight:
