Our Lord’s year, 1954 marked the opening of the Luxor International Airport (English: Luxor International Airport) on the eastern part of Luxor in the Arab Republic of Egypt. In 1990 additional construction works were carried out to upgrade its capacity with a new passenger terminal which was reopened in 1994. 

This airport bears an international air transport association (IATA) code (LXR) besides an ICAO code (HELX). It has a surface area of approximately 23, 207,222,439 square meters and mainly caters for the region surrounding Luxor accessible to 25 destinations located within ten different countries without any stopover at all. The airport receives about 3.5 million passengers every year.

Luxor International Airport is the key air hub for the city of Luxor, situated 6 km to the east of it. This airport, along with its air control center and meteorological station, was handed over to Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority by British military authority in May 1946 since it was very crucial which is located in the most significant archeological region in world. Luxor International Airport has been equipped to serve passengers to the fullest, with the construction of a special passenger building with 14 counters, 2400 passengers per hour, a baggage handling system, special airline parking called Al-Tormak, corridors with indicative signage, as well as a single runway with a length of 3,000 meters and a width of 45 meters.

Luxor Airport obtains a license renewal certificate until 2026 by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority by licensing Luxor International Airport to operate as an international airport until 2026, in accordance with the requirements of the World Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) represented in the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, in accordance with international standards and standards
