The building is located within the area of the Mamluk Cemetery (Northern Cemetery), Cairo, Egypt. Sultan al-Nasir Faraj ibn Barquq ruled twice in AH 801–8 / AD 1399–1405 and in AH 808–15 / AD1405–12. The intervening period between his two reigns saw the short reign of Sultan al-Mansur 'Abd al-Aziz.
The mosque is situated in the historic district of Islamic Cairo, specifically in the area known as Bayn al-Qasrayn, near the Al-Azhar Mosque and Khan El Khalili market.
