You will start your wonderful tour of Alexandria from Cairo.
After breakfast, your personal tour guide and car driver will be waiting for you outside. You will begin your tour of Alexandria, which was built in 332 B.C. by the famous leader of the ancient Greek Kingdom Alexander the Great.
He established one of the largest empires in the ancient world, and it became the Capital city of Egypt for almost 1000 years until the Arab conquest in the 7th century. Alexandria remained the second most important city after Cairo
After arriving in Alexandria, you'll start your tour by visiting the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, which was a private tomb of a rich Romanized Egyptian family that has been expanded in later centuries to become a burial for the common people of Alexandria. From there, you'll have a short drive to the great Pompey's Pillar, which is the highest-standing pillar in Egypt built by the people of Alexandria in gratitude for the Roman Emperor Diocletian who diverted a portion of the annual tribute of corn and grain to Egypt used to send to Rome to the relief of the citizens.
You will enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea all the way to the Citadel of Qaitbay, which was established in 1477 A.D. on the ruins of the legendary lighthouse Pharos.
Enjoy your seafood lunch in a beautiful restaurant in Alexandria, and then move to a fantastic library in Alexandria – the Modern Bibliotheca of Alexandria.
This library is modern and has been rebuilt after a previous fire destroyed it.
Your private driver and guide will take you back to Cairo, stopping halfway through for some rest and coffee or tea.
