Itinerary

From your hotel in Cairo or Giza, you will be met by one of our friendly representatives who will accompany you to Cairo airport in a modern and private car to take your flight to Luxor, the city of a hundred gates, to live an unforgettable experience with the visit of the following:

Karnak Temple: This temple is the largest religious complex in ancient Egypt and one of the greatest architectural achievements built by the pharaohs over more than 2,000 years. The temple extends over a vast area that includes huge halls and giant columns that reach a height of more than 20 metres, the most important of which is the Great Hall of Columns, which includes 134 columns decorated with carvings and colourful drawings that still retain their lustre today. Throughout the temple you will find obelisks and huge statues of kings such as Ramses II and Thutmose III, as well as the sacred lake used by the priests in purification rituals.

Valley of the Kings: One of the most important archaeological sites in the world, the pharaohs of the New Kingdom (18th and 19th Dynasties) chose this mountain valley to be their burial place away from the eyes of thieves. The valley includes more than 60 royal tombs carved into the rocks, adorned with vibrant carvings that, in accordance with Pharaonic burial texts like the Book of the Dead and the Book of Gates, describe the kings' travels to the afterlife. Tutankhamun's tomb and the tombs of Ramses II, Ramses VI, and Seti I are among the most well-known tombs that are open for tours. Despite the passage of thousands of years, the walls of these tombs still have beautiful carvings and vibrant colours.

The Temple of Hatshepsut (Deir el-Bahri): A unique and unparalleled architectural masterpiece, it was built by Queen Hatshepsut in the lap of the western mountain of Thebes to reflect her power and status as the greatest queen who ever ruled Egypt. This temple consists of three huge amphitheatres that rise gradually in harmony with the surrounding mountain landscape.  Inside the temple, you will find murals depicting the queen's famous sea voyage to Puntland, along with religious and mythological inscriptions glorifying the god Amun-Ra.

Finally, we will take you by private car to your hotel in Aswan to spend the night and prepare for your next day's adventure.

Lunch in a local restaurant in Luxor.

On your second day and after breakfast at your hotel in Aswan, get ready for your adventure today, as our guide will take you in a modern car to explore the following:

The High Dam: One of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century, it was built to protect Egypt from the threat of flooding and store water in Lake Nasser to provide electricity and continuous irrigation. About 3.6 kilometres long and more than 100 metres high, the dam is capable of controlling the flow of the Nile River like never before. Thanks to the dam, Egypt became a water- and agriculturally stable country and provided a huge source of hydroelectric power. When we visit the dam, we can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the endlessly expanding Lake Nasser.

The Philae Temple: Located on an island in the heart of the Nile River, it is one of the most beautiful and poetic Egyptian temples. It was dedicated to Isis, the goddess of love and fidelity in Egyptian mythology. The temple is distinguished for its magnificent halls, elaborate columns, and carvings that narrate the story of Horus, Osiris, and Isis. After the construction of the High Dam, the entire temple was moved to its new location on Ajelika Island to save it from sinking, in one of the greatest archaeological salvage operations ever undertaken by UNESCO.

The unfinished obelisk: In the ancient quarries of Aswan lies an incomplete obelisk that gives a rare glimpse into the ancient Egyptians' stone-cutting techniques. Had it been completed, it would have been about 42 metres long and weighed more than 1,100 tonnes, making it the largest obelisk in history. But it remained in place due to a crack that appeared in the rock while it was being carved. When you visit it, you can clearly see the tools and methods that workers used to carve the giant obelisks that adorn the temples in Luxor and Cairo.

Finally, to wrap up your two-day journey from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan, we will drive you to catch your flight to Cairo and return you to your Cairo lodgings.

The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as Deir el-Bahri, is a magnificent archaeological site located on the west bank of the Nile River in Luxor, Egypt. It is one of the most iconic and well-preserved temples in Egypt, and its history is closely tied to the powerful female pharaoh Hatshepsut. Here is an overview of the history of the Hatshepsut Temple:

1. Construction in the 15th Century BCE: The construction of the Hatshepsut Temple began during the 15th century BCE, during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut. She was one of the most remarkable pharaohs of ancient Egypt and the second historically confirmed female pharaoh.

2. Architectural Innovation: The temple is renowned for its unique architectural design, which features terraces and colonnades with rows of imposing columns. It was designed by Senenmut, the queen's chief architect, who incorporated innovative elements into the temple's structure.

3. Dedication to the God Amun: The temple is primarily dedicated to the god Amun, who was a principal deity in the Egyptian pantheon. It was built to honor Amun and the divine origin of Hatshepsut's rule.

4. Religious Significance: The temple is adorned with intricate reliefs and inscriptions that depict the divine birth and reign of Hatshepsut. It also features scenes of the queen's successful military campaigns and her extensive trading expeditions to Punt (modern-day Somalia).

5. Ongoing Restoration and Exploration: Over the centuries, the temple fell into disrepair, and sand buried many of its structures. In the 19th and 20th centuries, extensive restoration efforts were undertaken to uncover and preserve the temple's remarkable features.

6. UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Hatshepsut Temple is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important part of the larger Theban Necropolis, which includes other ancient Egyptian tombs and temples.

7. Decline and Vandalism: After the death of Hatshepsut, her successor, Thutmose III, tried to erase her legacy from history, and some of the temple's inscriptions were vandalized or removed.
