To begin our journey, we leave Luxor early in the morning and go to Abydos to see the Temple of Seti I. King Seti I constructed this temple, which his son, King Ramses II, and his grandson, Merneptah, finished... Its distinctive design and the fact that it has seven chambers for the worship of six gods in addition to Seti himself are what make it famous.
The original facade of the temple has recently been uncovered and reconstructed, revealing the two large edifices of the temple, and the space beyond is the location of the first courtyard and the second courtyard of the temple. The temple's two main structures, the first and second courtyards, were destroyed, leaving only the temple's facade and present entrance, with its square columns and walls that featured engravings of some of Ramses II's wartime events and Asian conquests. They also bore some of his commemorative inscriptions.
In contrast to other Egyptian temples, the Abydos temple has a particularly distinctive layout that takes the shape of the Latin letter L or a right angle. The Holy of Holies, the main compartment, is located perpendicular to the series of courtyards and successive halls of columns.
The roof rests on twenty-four columns. The columns are shaped like bundles of papyrus, and their capitals are in the shape of a flower that has not yet bloomed.
We next proceed to Dendera. The catacombs of the Temple of Dendera were the place designated for festival celebrations in ancient Egypt. From there, golden statues of deities and ritual tools necessary for performing religious rites were taken out. Inside were costly equipment and priceless sculptures. They contain an important collection of inscriptions and scenes, including a scene of the opening of the stone door, the winged priest pushing the winged sun disk in front of him between the east and west signs, the ritual of offering bread to the goddess Hathor, Lady of Dendera, in addition to the ritual of stabbing the crocodile in front of Horus with the sharpness of the scenes of the seven Hathors. In the end, you will return again to Luxor.
