Apophis (or Aviv, Abebe, Aviv), (Greek: ἄπορις) is an evil snake in ancient Egyptian mythology, considered a symbol of evil, and as such is the enemy of the "symbolic good" Ra and MAAT "truth and Justice". To defeat these armies, the priests of Ra held annual rituals of bringing a doll in the shape of Apophis, hitting it with mud, then crushing and burning it. There was also another ritual of bringing a wax statue of Apophis and then cutting it into pieces.
