The popular first thing to see will be the Pillar of Pompey, a column of red granite approximately 27 meters in height. It is not associated with the Roman general, Pompey; rather, it had been constructed to honor Emperor Diocletian in the 3rd century A.D. The column is located in the ruins of the Serapeum of Alexandria, a great temple that was devoted to a Greco-Egyptian god known as Serapis.

It will then move on to the Citadel of Qaitbay, which is a medieval fort that was constructed in the 15th century by Ashraf Qaitbay of the Sultan. It was built with the help of the stones of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the World in the past. The citadel is majestically located on the Mediterranean coastline, which has scenic views and powerful sea breezes.
on the way, you will see the impressive modern Library Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a cultural center, which was opened in 2002 in memory of the ancient Great Library of Alexandria. Its round shape is a sun-disk, and the huge size of books becomes its symbolic image of the historical role of Alexandria as a center of knowledge.
