Welcome to Égypte!
Your journey begins here. Your English-speaking guide will meet you upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, holding a sign with your name on it. After your transfer and hotel check-in, your guide will review your 8-day Egypt itinerary with you and confirm your daily pick-up times.
Overnight at your hotel in Cairo.
After your breakfast, your expert Egyptologist guide will accompany you to the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the Pyramids of Giza, which have dominated the landscape for over 4,500 years. The complex consists of three main pyramids, each built for a Pharaoh of the 4th Dynasty:
Cheops (The great pyramid): Dedicated to King Khufu, this is the oldest monument on the Giza plateau, constructed from approximately 2 million massive stone blocks. Your guide will reveal the architectural secrets behind its construction.
Chephren: Dedicated to King Khafre, this pyramid often appears taller than Khufu’s because it sits on a slight elevation, though it is actually slightly shorter. You can easily recognize it by the remaining smooth limestone casing at its peak. Originally, the Giza pyramids were encased in polished white limestone, appearing as a "Hill of Light" (Akhet) under the sun which is the secret to their eternal preservation.
Mycerinus: The smallest of the three, yet famous for its beautiful Valley Temple and the Pyramids of the Queens that surround it.
Standing guard before the pyramids is the Great Sphinx, the eternal protector of the Giza Plateau. With the body of a lion representing power and a human head symbolizing intelligence, it remains one of the world's most iconic monuments.
The journey continues to Tahrir Square in the heart of downtown, home to the world-renowned Egyptian Museum. Step inside to discover a collection of 120,000 masterpieces, including the legendary Golden Treasures of Tutankhamun, ancient sarcophagi, papyrus scrolls, and monumental statues such as those of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye.
After recharging with a delicious local lunch, you will head to Old Cairo (Coptic Cairo) via private, air-conditioned vehicle. This historic district houses some of the oldest churches in Christian history. According to tradition, the Holy Family sought refuge here during their flight into Egypt.
Highlights of this guided tour include:
The Hanging Church: Dedicated to the Virgin Mary and built atop the towers of the Roman Fortress of Babylon. Its unique wooden ceiling is designed to resemble an upturned ship's hull.
Church of Abu Serga: Home to the sacred crypt where Jesus, Mary, and Joseph are believed to have hidden.
Ben Ezra Synagogue : A former church converted in the 9th century; legend says this is the spot where the baby Moses was found in the Nile reeds.
