Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan

Wadi Rum is called the Valley of the Moon, and it is the largest valley in Jordan, and the word Rum means in Arabic language as the Valley of Sand. It is one of the rarest natural landscapes in Jordan, as it is characterized by granite and sandstone rocks over the valley. It is full of red sand, but suffers little rainfall and as such is one of the arid regions.

Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan

Wadi Rum is one of Jordan's main tourist attractions as it is a fascinating desert one can see, lying 320 km southwest of Amman, 120 km south of Petra, and only 68 km north of Aqaba.

It has a unique shape of massive mountains that rise vertically out of the pink desert sand, which separates one dark mass from another in a magnificent desert scenery of strange breathtaking beauty, with towering cliffs of weathered stone.

The faces of the sheer rock cliffs have been shaped by the wind into faces of men, animals, and monsters Wadi Rum is probably best known because of its connection with the British officer T.E. Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-1918, and as the setting for the film that carried his name "Lawrence of Arabia".

Now the home of several Bedouin tribes, Wadi Rum has been inhabited for many years. The village of Wadi Rum consists of several hundred Bedouin inhabitants with their goat-hair tents and concrete houses, one school for boys and one for girls, a few small shops, and the headquarters of the Desert Patrol.

You will enjoy your Tea under a starry desert sky and have an unforgettable experience of hiking, climbing, and trekking.

A well-traveled bridge between sea and desert, east and west, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a land of mesmerizing beauty and contrasts, from the Jordan Valley, fertile, ever-changing, to the remote desert canyons, immense and still. Visitors can explore splendid desert castles, gaze in awe at the haunting wilderness of Wadi Rum, or bathe in the restful waters of the Red Sea.
