The Cataract Aswan Hotel, built on a Nile hill on the river's edge in Aswan in the late 1800s, is one of the city's finest and most prominent historic and luxury hotels.


 

The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel, known as the Old Cataract Hotel, was built by Thomas Cook to house European travelers, set on the shores of the River Nile, overlooking Elephantine Island and the Mausoleum of Aga Khan, this iconic British period. The Grand hotel opened its doors in January 1900. A new tower wing was built in 1961.

Between 2008-2011, the hotel was closed for a complete restoration during which the tower was common with the historic Old Cataract wing into one hotel.

The Old Cataract wing, which had 131 rooms and eight suites, was renamed the Palace Wing, now have 76 rooms and 45 suites, the New Cataract Wing, which had 44 rooms, turn to the Nile Wing, added  62 rooms and 37 suites.

For over 100 years, The hotel hosted many famous people and stars.
