Scattered throughout the city's historic center, the Topkapi Palace is an organic monumental complex that served as the residence of the Sultans from 1478 until 1856. Another striking example of architectural magnificence is the Blue Mosque, which is well-known for its six towering minarets and terraced domes. The Roman Hippodrome, where circuses and chariot races have taken place for over a millennium, is a must-see in the afternoon.
