Khnum-hotep II was the supervisor of the eastern desert during the reign of King Amenemhat II and Senusret II of the Twelfth Dynasty
The entrance to the colonnaded hall in the Khnum-hotep tomb is preceded by a portico with two pillars in the forecourt. In the old days, the front yard was reached by a long ascending road, the path of which can still be seen thanks to the rocks on either side. The portico has two polygonal columns.
Because of its resemblance to Greek Doric columns, this style of column is called "Proto-Doric". The pillared hall contains two burial wells. It was designed with two rows of columns in a square shape around its middle, and this hall ends with the statue's cabin.
Khnum-hotep recorded his autobiography in 222 text columns running through the lower part of the colonnaded hall walls on either side of the statue's cabin, and can also be seen catching fish and birds in nature.
The most famous view of the tomb is the one on the north wall (to the left of the entrance), where there is a delegation from the “Amo” (the word used by the ancient Egyptians to refer to people who lived in the east and north-east of them). This delegation consists of men, women and children, dressed in beautiful and colorful clothes.
The hieroglyphic script above them specifies that they are a 37-year-old delegation bringing eye paint. There is also a title for the head of the delegation, which is "Absha", which is known as "Haqqa-Khasit", which means "ruler of a foreign land.
" This is the oldest known example of a word that is popular today in the Greek Hyksos language
On the western wall, a wonderful scene can be observed depicting three monkeys helping the workers to collect figs from the tree.
Monkeys in these inscriptions are considered a factor in collecting the crop in this era due to the length of the trees and their distance from the ground.
