Seven days in Egypt is a tricky thing to balance. You want to see the pyramids, but you also probably want to eat some fresh seafood by the water without spending your whole trip sweating on a bus. That’s exactly why we put this specific 7-day route together. It gives you the heavy-hitting ancient history, but it finishes up at the beach so you actually go home feeling rested.
We start in Cairo to get the main attractions out of the way. You'll spend your first couple of days at the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx. But we don't just stop there—we also take you out to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid. Honestly, Saqqara is often less crowded than Giza, and the tombs out there have some of the most incredible, detailed carvings you'll see anywhere in the country.
Next, we hit the road and head north to the coast. Alexandria has a completely different vibe compared to the capital. It’s greener, a bit more relaxed, and feels very Mediterranean. You'll check out the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Roman amphitheater, and the modern library. On the drive out of the city, we make a point to stop at El Alamein. It’s not ancient Egyptian history, but the WWII sites and cemeteries there are really well done and give you a totally different perspective on the area.
After all the walking and history lessons, the last part of the trip is your payoff: Marsa Matrouh. This place isn't a massive, heavily built-up resort town. It’s actually where a lot of locals from Cairo go to escape the summer heat. The water is this ridiculous shade of blue-green, and there are these cliffside coves like Agiba Beach that look straight out of a movie. You can just check into your hotel, swim, eat grilled fish right by the water, and do absolutely nothing for a couple of days.
It’s a great mix of our standard Egypt travel packages with a proper coastal vacation tacked onto the end. We handle the driving, the hotels, and the guides so you don't have to stress about the logistics of getting from the pyramids all the way up to the Mediterranean coast.
If you like the sound of this but want to tweak a few days here or there, just let us know. We build these exactly how you want them. If you're really short on time and just want to focus on the capital, you can also browse our Cairo day tours to see what else we can squeeze into a single afternoon.
