Today, we'll be exploring the beautiful city of Aswan. Aswan is Egypt's southernmost city and is a gateway to some of the country's most amazing sights. We have a full Aswan day of tours planned, including visits to the Aswan High Dam, the Temple of Philae, and the Unfinished Obelisk.
Start the day with a visit to the Aswan High Dam, one of the most impressive engineering feats of the 20th century. Built in the 1960s to protect Egypt from the devastating floods that used to occur along the Nile River. the dam provides vital flood control and hydroelectric power for the region. The dam also created Lake Nasser, the largest man-made lake in the world.
Next, we will visit the Temple of Philae, one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. Dedicated to the goddess Isis and was a center of worship for over 1,000 years. The temple was relocated to its current location on an island in the Nile River when the Aswan High Dam was built.
Finally, we'll see the Unfinished Obelisk which is one of the most fascinating sites in Aswan. This massive granite obelisk was meant to be part of a much larger monument but was abandoned when a crack was discovered in the stone. It is believed that the obelisk was never finished due to a flaw in the stone.
