There are many buildings en the Citadel includes but the most impressive of them is the Mosque of Mohamed Ali which is similar to the Turkish style of architecture art. The Citadel continued major development during the following 700 years since it was built by Saladin especially during the Mamluk Sultanate.it has been proclaimed by UNESCO as part of the world heritage site in 1976 and opened to the public officially in 1983.
