Thirteen days is a serious chunk of vacation time. I get that. But if you actually want to see the classic Egyptian sites and the weird, wild desert stuff without feeling like you live on a tour bus, this is exactly how you have to do it. We essentially took our standard Egypt Nile Cruise Tours and mashed them up with a deep dive into the western oases.
You’re starting in Cairo, obviously. We'll get the massive bucket-list items out of the way first. You'll spend a morning at the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx. (And no, despite what some guides might tell you, we still don't know exactly how they built them). After that, we head to the Grand Egyptian Museum to see King Tut's golden mask and the thousands of artifacts they dug out of his tomb. It’s a lot to take in. We also carve out time for Khan El Khalili. Fair warning: it’s loud, crowded, and you will be offered tea by about forty different shopkeepers. Just go with it.
Next, we fly you south to Luxor to hop on a 5-star Nile cruise boat. This stretch is the most relaxing part of the trip. You wake up, have breakfast, and just walk off the ship right into places like Karnak Temple. No long bus rides required. You'll see the Valley of the Kings, eat way too much food on board, and just watch the palm trees drift by from the sun deck.
Then the trip takes a totally different turn. We leave the river behind and drive west into the desert to hit the oases—specifically spots like Bahariya and the White Desert. Most tourists skip this entirely, which is exactly why you should go. You'll drive through these crazy, alien-looking white rock formations and camp out under a sky that has absolutely zero light pollution. The stars out there look fake they're so bright.
